Meet the Cast of 'Genius: Aretha' w/ Cynthia Erivo, Shaian Jordan & More | Entertainment Weekly

Cynthia Erivo, Shaian Jordan, Suzan-Lori Parks and Courtney B. Vance sit down to discuss their new Emmy-winning anthology series GENIUS: ‘Genius: Aretha.’

Erivo was making her entrance at the 2019 Tony Awards when a reporter asked her to name her guilty-pleasure song. She responded with “Ain’t No Way,” by Aretha Franklin, and sang a bit of it to demonstrate her love for the tune. Read more: https://ew.com/tv/cynthia-erivo-aretha-franklin-genius-interview/

  1. Not a huge fan of cynthia at all she had said quit a few damaging statements on black Americans!!!! Yet all her best rolls she plays African American. Really interesting.

  2. New Bethal was on the corner of my great grandmother street. Linwood ave would become real exciting when a motown (Detroit) artist would pass on. That church would be so popping with so many stars walking up. We asking for pictures or asking them to sign my shirt or this album or piece of paper. Linwood would be all the buzz!!!

  3. I loved how they even touched on the Natalie Cole angle as Aretha was offerred three songs off the debut Inseperable project but rejected This will be and Inseperable but decided to record You and Natalie went on to dethrone her from the grammy run 2 years in a row. Didnt know Aretha took the Sparkle project away from Carolyn either. But true Aretha fans knew her first son , pos her 2nd son as well were fathered by her father.

  4. Too bad this series cant be nominated for Oscar because Cynthia became Aretha more convincingly as each episode aired. She was Aretha in the 1970's. Even her speaking voice became very much like Aretha as the series continues
